Activity 2: SLOW BREATHING
- Explain that this is another exercise that can be used to help a person relax.
- Ask students to close their eyes for a moment and to pay attention to the natural
rhythm of their breathing. Their breathing is the slowest when they are
the most calm and when they are sleeping. As they become more and more
anxious or emotional, their breathing becomes more rapid.
- To calm themselves, they can purposely slow their breathing. Ask them to
inhale to a slow count of four, using all four counts to take in a full breath.
Without holding their breath, they immediately exhale to a slow count of
four. (Do this several times.)
- Ask the students how they feel. Was this exercise different than the rags activity?
How do they think they might use this exercise?
